Lots of great insight, as usual. The album Graceland was pivotal in my life. I was a young adult and just becoming aware of an apartheid South Africa. And when I heard Hugh Masekela and Ladysmith Black Mambazo on the Graceland album it really had a huge impact on me.
BTW, I did not understand Graceland to be alluding to heaven, but a song about journeys.
are your point is valid that we all have our individual experience with art and that you're kind of pointing out another dimension that art can make us aware of our world and it's failings but even though the song isn't about apartheid South Africa that Simon shows to employ those artists meant that he was sending it another message besides the overt message of the song
